The flower opening- Copyright Robert Fullarton 2016

The flower opening
Like God’s love to an open mind
The generations have risen and deceased
Like moulds to mournful dust
But the soul aspires to dwell
In the sunshine
Of the one who fashioned the eye
And filled the heart with feeling
It sends all reeling in the nexus of eternity
Like fireflies the faithful
Glow in the din of a summers dusk
Like romance, scented flowers fill us with a perfume
And love unseen, drives minds to courage
Like Knights existing for all times and all places
noble hearts are fashioned and embroidered
on the extremity and intensity of the pursuit
not like an anguished night of desire
but the gulf of all to come, yards and yards
miles and miles, dreaming beyond dreaming
beyond the measuring rod, the firmaments
are not enough for the contents of the promise
and the search goes on beyond the roads of today
past heavy toiled paths, beyond sight, it lies illusive.

I

I have found the secular world to be so boring. Where one declares and lives for the paltry measures of life, for the appearance of things and not for the reason beyond people and within people. Let us not forget that the physical is only the manifestation of the spiritual, where God declared by his will and through his being that matter would be made to create forms of spiritual beings or creatures that existed contemporaneously. Man is unique in that he is both physical and spiritual, not like angels nor like beasts, he has both body and soul within him and most remarkably, the Christian believes and knows that man was created in the “image of God”.

II

Through the fire there is life, out of its smoke came a noble soul that was granted rest after the great labours and travails of the race of men, which endure, which rage, which are warring on through mind, body and soul, and seek rest to the point of spiritual decimation. One man’s morale can come to the point of such a decimation, as life seems to be baseless, hopeless, a taxing venture, a test concerning everything from which the mind can fathom and for those who are ignorant of such matters, life is a test no matter what they say and it is all this and more. We are so weary not so much in physical fatigue but when the belief of the individual cannot see resolution and confirmation that all their hopes will come to final expression. The finality of man is in the pre-existing mould, those of the world cannot understand why life began and why God begot their feelings, but call it a senseless mess and ceaselessly try to kill the hope that men have placed in the cause of heaven.

III

The kettle of the emotions, burns deep and boils within my fabric. The emotions we have, the feelings, the beliefs and sentiments are they not more than mere labels of information. Worship of knowledge without credible meaning or reason, what does it add to? The scientist he systematizes knowledge, it is a theory and not an experience to many, not something that pertains to an intelligent wish or great desire. Life itself, is called the senseless happening of accident, but man thinks his thoughts are sensible despite the paradoxical conclusion. He devalues life and his own life, he believes that he invented the rules, and wont concede his heart to the God he has denied. Man believes he has written the manual on life and that nothing can exist outside the terms given by the manual.

IV

The heart is the compass for the seeker, who points towards God and lifts his countenance towards the sun, but with aspirations for the next life. He or she lives with the spiritual promise of inheriting Eternity, as Abraham, waited and lived, not in vain- passing the blessing and the promise unto the next generation- despite the fact each man died, they did not inherit the land they stood upon, nor did their seed for another four hundred years take the land. Yet their life and desire concerned the spiritual promises of God, which concern eternity, life outside of time, love outside of season, man in immortal form, God without veil, Christ in Kingship, life in abundance like a homecoming that lasts forever, erupting in purpose and the love that is beyond the temporal, with nothing hidden from the mists of the physical world. All things in this life are the preparations for the crossing unto the next, do we not see foreshadows in this life, tasting what is possible and as attainable as Christians that what was written about will come to pass. Beyond the present the future comes to pass and from the past this word was given to the generations that came and went, as God in time and outside it acts and outlasts the kingdom of man, but we believe that the next kingdom is not one mere country but the earth itself, renewed beyond recognition, with man reborn, with death destroyed! We human’s live by the moment, not knowing what will come next, if we are without security within this life, we must make in the assurance of something greater that comes from outside it into this one we presently inhabit to him who designed our hearts to seek his face in glory. The Hebrews looked upon God’s passing resonance, reflected off Moses veiled face, we Gentile believers have permission, access and privilege to see the fullness in Jesus Christ, this is what the transfiguration amounts to, it is the union of our heart and soul with the spirit of God, something which the Hebrews could never even dream of. How blessed and loved we truly are to have such a covenant and have such access, to the Holy of Holies, which neither the Abrahamic or Mosaic covenants permitted! What the generations of antiquity toiled for another distant one reaps in harvest, drinks the cream and lives the dream they dreamt. It is a rich bounty which we must revive again and again, remember and always be thankful for.

Light after dark

Whacked like a shuttlecock
Between events
With days like haze that hang
Upon a fragile centre
I hold at the delicate seams
The hinges appear ready to go
At the next hurdle
But the man surprisingly survives
As Ice, Fire, tears, stone and fog endures,
Blanketed, paralysed, frozen and afraid
The faintest light contemplates escape
And seeks joyful eruption
Have you been weathered?
As I have been?
Have you been exposed
Like a cut
In the blizzard
Salted, wounded
And left like roadkill in the wilderness?
Have you been in the dingy attic?
Or the dungeon of your mind
With no map
Or compass
With apathy in memory
Locked in house
Tied in fear
Have home and prison merged
And where prayer becomes a refuge
For the calling of the famished?
The faintest light
Contemplates escaping
From beneath the boulders
That hurt the man intensely
The light seeks to reclaim
All that was lost and once was
The light seeks to brave the darkness
For hope must be stronger than a candle
The faintest light contemplates escape
And seeks joyful eruption

Reflections on the rough and tumbles of the Road -Diary- PART 1 By Robert Fullarton

Reflections on the rough and tumbles of the Road
-Diary- PART 1 By Robert Fullarton

There are times in life when we cannot see clearly our position and what we should act upon. Sometimes unfortunately we may make the wrong decision and it may come at a terrible cost. It seems, as though the crime is unforgivable and that we are irredeemable. But to be honest, what are we to do? Are we to stand still, falter and surrender to despair? Such is the spiral staircase that can lead us as low as self-harm and even suicide. What good would such actions do for either the individual or their family?
Our weaknesses are all too clear to see in certain moments and in other moments our strengths come alive and we may be surprised! Perfection is unachievable in this morally ambiguous life, even when our heart desires to do the right thing, we may find ourselves doing the wrong thing yet again. It is the case of “I do what I ought not to do!”
You often have to go against the grain in a life of flattery, seduction and false appeal. But alas we may have a very “real moment” or “moment of purity” out from this become more than what we are or more of what we were made to be and “born to be”! But which of us can extend such “purity” in the longevity of a lifetime. The rash, fluctuating of mood, short, spare and tactless person will fall short in time, it is the diagnosis of the human species but the prognosis is an entirely different matter altogether.
A Christian has to tread a fine line often in this life between puritanical religiosity and worldly decadence. But all is clear in love, for those who love, for those who display mercy in heart and action to people who are in desperation or even those who do not deserve it. This is the radical love the Christian exemplifies and perpetuates. This is what we have been called to do by the Christ, because it is the truth and he is the point of reference, for which the hearts of men are tested, measured, given definition and exploration.
Again I do what I ought not to do my body battles my spirit, my carnal nature embattled my new identity in Christ, my temper runs short, my tolerance expires and the pride of a world full of competition and bluff veers me off my course, from my original intention to a calamity of weakness and exposure.
What do I do? Have I not crashed my vehicle into a ditch? I am now baring the spiritual scars and pains I have inflicted upon myself and perhaps upon others. Where do I go and who do I go to? We moderns have given too much faith and time to the psychiatrist and the councillor, whom we pay to offer us “feel good” mantras, passive assistance and new age religion. Despite what may be in vogue with certain circles. I never found such help to be of much use and I unfortunately dabbled in such muck! The crises of the time changes, but it is nonetheless a crises for which a humble heart and believing mind can come to terms with.
Through many times and many days, many minutes, seasons, years, months and tests, both up the ladder at the bottom of a spiritual dung heap, I know that I need the assurance of God. I asked myself who is the one who made it so? Knowledge is partial, it is the insatiable thirst that a finite mortal nibbles at the infinite, struggles to comprehend it and relinquishes to non-believe because the answers come to a non-sequitur of unbelief, cynicism and partial knowledge when it comes to all things, the omnipotent power to know all things alludes mankind in the age of sub-atomic science.
I have thought to myself who made me think and drove my instincts and desires to the formulation of a plan, towards a relationship and indeed it was and is “God who loved us first” and who loved us before we knew him. Religion is stone deaf genuflection without response, without the intricacies of depth, boldness, profundity of love and sacrifice that Christianity is in reality.
Christianity is Jesus Christ, Christianity is about relationship, remember no other world faith, states that you can have a personal relationship, knowledge or access to the presence of God and that God has three persons in his oneness and can be known in return. It is wisely and wonderfully described as a betrothal, an engagement and a marriage, beyond the mists of time, beyond this world, beyond our weaknesses and all the seduction of the world can throw at us and it is also the only faith which has redemption and forgiveness at its centre!
